Man, I really still can’t handle Blaine trying to blame Kurt for his cheating. And that song choice doesn’t help.

I’ve seen multiple people say this and I just… it didn’t come off that way to me at all.  Like, I never saw anyone saying that Kurt was blaming Blaine for his cheating with Chandler when he responded that the reason he did it was because Blaine wasn’t making him feel special anymore.  So why is Blaine pointing out that Kurt wasn’t there for him suddenly wrong?  He’s not blaming Kurt for his act of cheating—I see Blaine taking full responsibility for that (he came clean with it for one)—but he is pointing out a reason that led to his decision to do it.  Exactly as Kurt did with what led to his decision to give Chandler his phone number.

Let’s please remember that Kurt was cheating (by Blaine’s own definition) on him at precisely the time Blaine was beginning to panic about what would happen when Kurt left.  Blaine and Kurt are very different from one another—a yin and a yang, if you will.  I honestly believe if Blaine had caught Kurt kissing Chandler it wouldn’t have affected him as deeply as finding those dozens of text messages between them when Kurt had barely been reaching out to Blaine at all during that time, except for shoe polish.  Just like I’m certain if Blaine had been texting/flirting with Eli, as opposed to “hooking up”, Kurt wouldn’t have been as hurt last night.  Remember, Kurt was annoyed that Blaine had texted with Sebastian, but never considered it cheating.  Kurt is all about physical intimacy with the person he loves.  Blaine is all about emotional intimacy with the person he loves. 

I’m really beginning to think, the more I read posts and consider my own feelings on the matter, one of the reasons we’re so shocked by what happened last night is because we’ve never seen Blaine hurt Kurt at this level.  Just like we’d never seen Kurt hurt Blaine at the level he did in DWS—and that upset us!—but the difference was, they resolved it by the end of the episode.  They talked, Blaine forgave Kurt, and while some of us were still concerned that there was still something lingering unresolved, Kurt and Blaine were together and it was all good.

This time, Blaine’s betrayal of Kurt’s trust has caused a bigger rift (read: longer storyline), and we didn’t get the resolution we all expect from these two.  We were shocked at the idea of Blaine causing Kurt that kind of pain (heart-eyes Blaine Anderson who transferred schools to be with the person he loved—what?!?!), and we were left with the shock and the pain because they didn’t talk about it, they didn’t resolve it and there was no forgiveness.  And now we’re floundering as much as they are.

And wow, this was a really, really long way of me saying, Blaine was not blaming Kurt for his cheating anymore than Kurt had been blaming Blaine for his.  But they both were admitting that they had made their decisions based on the inattention of the person they loved.  Similar, though not exact in scope or resolution, situations of betrayal.
